It’s time to rejuvenate your smooth, silky skin.
As we approach the cool(er) months here in Austin, Texas, it is the perfect time to have an Photorejuvenation (IPL) treatment performed. We proudly use the Lumenis solution here at APSI Skin Care Clinic.
Photorejuvenation refers to the use of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to treat conditions related to sun-induced skin damage. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light which is primarily absorbed by melanin and oxyhemoglobin
and is effective in reducing the appearance of sun spots, capillaries, elastosis and fine lines.
Is IPL painful? Patients feel some stinging, similar in sensation to the snapping of a small rubber band against the skin.
How is IPL performed? The treatment area is cleansed. A cool gel is applied to the area being treated. Dark glasses are worn to protect the patient’s eyes from the light. With the patient in a comfortable, relaxed position, the IPL handpiece is gently applied to the skin and light pulses are applied. Each treatment usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes.
What areas can be treated? The most common areas are the face, neck, chest and hands.
How many treatments will I need? Between four and six treatments, four weeks apart.
How will I look after each treatment? Patients experience a few days of redness and possible pinpoint bruising after the IPL procedure. Some brown spots may appear darker for a few days, then peel off. You can apply makeup immediately after IPL treatment if necessary.
Why are multiple treatments necessary? Depending on the number of conditions you are treating and the severity of each, following through the full six treatments might be recommended. By dividing the full program into several treatments , the procedure provides a gradual improvement with very low risk, preserving the convenience of a “no downtime” procedure.
